"Laugh out-loud funny" by a "Master Storyteller," to quote the book's editor, who has written and published numerous novels herself.
In 1950s West Texas, best friends Tim and Hect, two mischief-makers in their middle teens, are enjoying the high life. Coddled in the type of lifestyles that allows them to play war with .22 caliber semiautomatic rifles, they suddenly find their world turned upside down when their game turns into a ghastly murder, or so they believe.
For a final hoot of the day, Hect has the idea to set ablaze an old shack in a forgotten auto junkyard. Tim readily agrees, though he thinks his friend's target is a wasp nest in a mesquite bush. They fill a bottle with fuel from a wrecked truck and hurl the Molotov cocktail at the shanty, which erupts into a fireball. Stunned that his friend chose to set fire to the empty office instead, Tim gapes in horror as a blazing figure appears in the hut's window. The human torch and a shocked Tim gaze at one another, searing the memory into the boy's mind. Interrupted by the sound of sirens coming from town, and believing their prank will land them in prison, if not on Huntsville’s Death Row, Tim and Hect think their only choice lies in becoming fugitives from the law.
Armed only with dogged determination and a forehead-slapping sense of naivety, the two boys flee out into the harsh Texas desert. Because of the spoiled lifestyles they've lived so far, the two couldn't be less prepared to face hunger, thirst, life on the road, homelessness and a hidden world of poverty and slums, plus the mean streets of Juarez, Mexico.
Other comments about the book from the publisher and proofreaders include:
"This was a rollicking good tale with plenty of tension but also much humor."
“A biting satire on societal excess and privilege that makes fun of the 1950s and the kids of ‘The Greatest Generation,’ the humorous/adventure novel, THERE IS A GENERATION, expertly reflects the wildness of boyhood, the idiocy of entitlement, and the fleeting nature of boyhood in a way that will entice audiences of all ages.”
“From beginning to end, the fiction novel is a fun romp through lots of adventure and comedic situations with a surprise ending that few, if any, will see coming.”

From Kirkus Reviews
An amusing coming-of-age travel adventure. Two teenage boys see the many facets of 1950s America in Buzzard's caper-filled debut novel. Young Texans Tim and Hect are friends despite being from different sides of the tracks. After they burn down an empty shack, they think that they've accidentally killed a homeless man, so they go on the run. Intending to separately hitchhike their way to El Paso, they each run into increasingly intriguing and bizarre strangers. Tim winds up in Colorado, and then New Mexico, hitching rides with a touring band and the rich guardian of a Janpanese World War II general's son. Hect falls into the path of T.J. and Becca, a father-and-daughter grifter team, who adopt him into their plans. Becca's intense desire to be a movie star eventually leads her to run away with Hect; soon, they meet up with Tim, and the trio try to con their way through Juarez, Mexico, but quickly run into difficulty. Tim and Hect's friendship is threatened by jealousy and resentment, and they soon find themselves in bigger trouble than they could ever have imagined. When they split up once more, Tim must do whatever he can to survive his trip home. The real strength of the story doesn't come from Tim and Hect themselves; their mishaps, close calls, and rich-kid and poor-kid mannerisms. Instead, the book's power comes from the colorful characters that the boys meet on their adventures. The two cut a vibrant swath through the United States and Mexico.

About the Author
A willful, unmanageable teenager once asked a wise old man how to get control of his unruly habits, his self-destructive behavior, and his inability to complete a task. “Do one thing every day for one hour you don’t want to do for someone else,” he replied, “and after thirty days, you’ll be self-disciplined.” Sure enough, the advice worked. That teenager grew into the author. WH Buzzard has had a passion ever since to communicate principles as simple and life-changing in fun, readable stories that edify. A West Texan at heart, the author now lives in Central Texas with his wife, who is one of his most particular editors. When not writing, he'll either be at the pool swimming laps, reading, walking, or thinking up "stretchers," which was Mark Twain's term for exaggerating truisms to make them more palatable.

AWESOME! What is going to happen to Tim and ...
By Lawrence C. Rochford
WH BUZZARD'S book "There Is A Generation" is not only exceptionally written but a mystery to the last chapter. AWESOME! What is going to happen to Tim and Hect? Their mischievous ways have finally caught up with them and the safe haven they used to have at home is far from them now. I was so intrigued reading "There Is A Generation" that I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the sequel coming out sometime this year. On a scale of 1 - 5, it's a "FIVE" in my book!!! Warning: Wild W H Bill Buzzard done wrote a book!
By R. Miller Houghton
Hi-de-Ho Wild Bill, Willy Bird, BB, Mr. Buzzard Man,
I whittled away on your book. Reading it, as time allowed, on my i-phone and finished it last night. I don't usually choose to read fiction, but this is really a treat. I loved it.
It's a refreshing, souped-up, technicolor, sentimental journey down a youthful, partially imaginary memory lane. You seem to be giving Mark Twain a good run for his money. Is your Tom and Hect, the T and H an intentional play on Tom and Huck?
Your descriptive skills are extraordinary.
Some of us who rode many a mile with young Wild Bill, are amazed, relieved and just plain delighted that you, perhaps the friskiest cat in the barn, survived your youth, to sort out your laundry and get your robe washed. Thank God!
I poked fun at your bio write up telling Susan Park Eiteljorg how things have changed, in that the wild man from our youth now enjoyed taking walks and going to church. Ha. She said she enjoyed much the same, but added maybe that was not so radical in that she did not start out with an earned nick name like Wild Bill. Susan jilted my realization that, oh yeow, I too now especially enjoy walks and church.
Bill, I'm eager to read the sequel next fall. Congratulations on producing an EXCELLENT NOVEL!
My best,
Miller

Interesting, exciting and intriguing
By Amazon Customer
Overall impression: very good. One of the most interesting books I have lately had a chance to read.
"There is a Generation" is a book I really enjoyed reading. A real page- turner which takes you on an exciting journey filled with adventure, mystery and mischief. It is a gripping, suspense filled and fast moving story of two spoiled brats, Tim and Hect, who learn that life on the road is not as easy as it may seem and that not everything in life goes according to plan. As the plot thickens Tim and Hect grow as characters and learn to take responsibility for their actions and appreciate the things they always took for granted. What is more, they learn that trust is a thing which has to be earned and that the people you thought you may always rely on may turn their backs on you when you least expect them to. The story is well developed. Tim and Hect are portrayed in a credible, realistic way. Becca, T.J and the rest of the characters the boys met while on the run seem to fit in quite well with the story. Their portrayal gives a reader a good overview of various people you may come across while on the road. Especially interesting one being that of a cowboy that Tim meets just after he parted ways with Hect. The dialogue is witty and interesting and everyday language used by the characters makes them more real and authentic. Worth reading? Definitely!
