Great Book for Teaching Spanish to Beginners or Homeschoolers

I've been looking for a good "Spanish for beginners" book for a long time. I bought Practice Makes Perfect Basic Spanish (Practice Makes Perfect Series)for that purpose, but you can read in my review of that book why it wasn't sufficient. But now I finally have a good book for beginning Spanish. The book is called Getting Started with Spanish by William Linney and Antonio Orta.
The book teaches you what you would typically learn in a Spanish I class in high school or Spanish 101 in college. But what makes this book different from other books is that the lessons are divided up into manageable "bite-size chunks." Each lesson gets a little more elaborate than the previous one.
The authors have bent traditional ways of teaching Spanish. For example, the infinitive isn't introduced until later in the book. But you learn how to conjugate the three conjugations before then. Instead of teaching the forms of "hablar," the author teaches the forms of "yo hablo." So the "yo" form, or the 1st person singular form is used as the semi-infinitive form. When I saw this method of teaching Spanish verbs, I realized that you don't really need to know the infinitive form anyway, at least not until you learn modal verbs like "querer" and "necesitar."
The authors have even supplied free mp3 audio files on the book's website. You can download the entire zipped folder from gettingstartedwithspanishDOTcom. Or you can download each mp3 individually.
The format of this book is unique and quite possibly a revolutionary way to introduce new languages. It makes me wish I had thought of it first. I've always considered learning Latin, but didn't know where to start. I may use the author's book on Latin now =Getting Started with Latin: Beginning Latin for Homeschoolers and Self-Taught Students of Any Age. And his book on Spanish makes me want to see a book on Getting Started with French (hint, hint).

Getting Started With Spanish by W. Linney

This is a fantastic book! I am using it with my 9 year old child but don't let that throw anyone. This is a book for any age just like Linney states on the front cover. The lessons are concise but full of information. Each lessons builds upon itself so the teaching is sequential. Grammar rules are added in here and there as well.
This is a well done book for those ready to begin their study of Spanish. For my now teen child, we have used both "Rosetta Stone" and "Auralog, Tell Me More" in the past. If this Linney book had been available I could have skipped these other two and used this! :) Great book!!!

Suzuki method to learning Spanish

The pedagogy of this book mirrors the Suzuki method to learning language. Because every lesson is manageable size, the students will have success right away and build their confidence.
Building upon previous lesson, the student can easily reach mastery before going on to next lesson using the audio files.
Incredibly, the pronunciation files for every lesson are FREE for download! There are also, FREE downloadable lesson-by-lesson lecture files from his web-site. This is incredible deal. As a homeschool mom, we do research and know the cost of programs. Other language program charges at least twice as much because you have to buy the book and the audio separately. I've used "Before You Know It" progam and this program is definitely superior, a lot cheaper and highly more effective. This program is so affordable, valuable and cost-effective.
