Phenomenal parenting book, full of ageless and sound Biblical wisdom

As a minister and Christian counselor, I could not be more impressed with L.R. Knost's new book. She is well researched in Scripture and looks at it in its original context, allowing it to inform her perspective (instead of taking her perspective and seeking prooftexted Scripture to support it like many Christian authors have dangerously done over the years). If you want to learn to be a parent after God's own heart, this book will lead and guide you and you will find yourself drawing near to Jesus time after time in the way you seek to love, grow and teach your little ones. It is a practical, informative read, written in her typical easy-to-read style where you can look at a chapter or two over a cup of coffee or while you are out running errands. It will be my go-to book!

A breath of fresh air for Christian parents.

In Jesus, the Gentle Parent, Knost beautifully illustrates the heart of the Father. She gently points readers' eyes directly to where Christian eyes should be fixed, the Cross - the Cross, where we all received the gift of an undeserving grace and an unconditional love which our children should not be deprived of. Jesus paid the penalty for our sin, yet self-proclaimed experts like Williams maintain that the smallest of us must continue to pay the penalty for theirs.

"Grace is the point. The whole point. Everything leading up to the Cross pointed to the Cross, everything was settled on the Cross, and on the cross,in the outstretched arms of Jesus is where grace was born. (L.R. Knost)

This book, however, is not just a book which discusses Christian theology, but is a practical guide for parenting children from infancy to adolescence. Newborns, toddlers, preschoolers, middle childhood, and teens and beyond are all addressed by the author as she explains how to parent our little ones responsively, consciously, and with a compassionate heart in each age and stage.

The Discussion Questions and Points to Ponder near the end of the book are invaluable as they implore us to look inside ourselves to see what our true beliefs are and where we acquired our beliefs, and more importantly to seek God for wisdom in our parenting choices. She doesn't expect you to take her word blindly but to seek counsel from the Creator.

Jesus, the Gentle Parent is a breath of fresh air for Christian parents. It is a paradigm-changing resource that I recommend to every parent who wants to show their children the heart of our God. Lay down your rods and pick up your child in loving arms as you gently point them to the Cross. One of the chapters is titled "Grace has a Face." I love that, because it's true. Jesus is the face of Grace, but to little children, the face of grace is you.

Hands down, the best book L.R.Knost has ever written, and that's saying a lot because I love her other books. As I read, I kept telling my husband, “This is groundbreaking. This is an IMPORTANT book. This changes everything.” Not only is Jesus, the Gentle Parent extremely well written and engaging, as L.R.’s books always are, but it is life-changing. I cannot thank her enough for writing this important book. I know how much courage it took.

So far, very good...

I am moving from FrontPage to Expression Web 4, so I'm not a total novice. I bought Sam's 24-hour handbook, and ran into snags that made me give up. So I bought this handbook by someone who clearly is an experienced author approved by Microsoft. I'm literally going "step by step" and am learning a lot, with a minimum of snags or unclear instructions. Once I've reached the end (it will take awhile because there are 500-plus pages... but luckily I am not under pressure to learn it overnight or in "24 hours"), I'll be pretty savvy, and I'll have a good reference book to use for my own site. A bonus is the online tutorial, plus the practice files you download and use in the lessons.

Too Technical Too Quick

I bought this book for someone else who gave up in chapter two. I picked it up, and if not for my years of experience would have given up in chapter two as well. I don't understand why he jumps right in to installing alternate PHP engines, and making the Development Server functional. Not only is such immediate depth unnecessary, in some cases the instructions either aren't right, or other cases unclear. In chapter one, we're installing alternate browsers, and adjusting settings that no normal user has an idea about. ...and all of this before we just simply create a site from a template. I know Website design can be as deep and complex as a person wants, but it doesn't have to start out that way. Simple web pages are, well, simple. But this book scared away the potential helper I thought I had lined up.

Expressions web 4

I found the book to be very helpful. I used FrontPage before switching to Expressions Web 4 and do find the new program to be a lot more difficult than FrontPage. Expressions is a much more fuller program and would take more time and effort to learn. The book was instrumental in making that process much easier.

Learn why the media fails our representative republic!!!!

Bennett offers a great insight into the manner in which the media works. The media's job is to make money for their parent companies. To that end the media needs to keep viewers watching their product. This, however, does not mean that better information will be produced by the media in order to keep people watching their product. Rather, it means they will do what they need to keep viewers regardless of whether this means that will produce better information for their viewers. For instance, they might provide more information about celebrities or entertainment. In this instance, they would be engaging in "infotainment," rather than informing the public. Bennett says all of this clearly and in a more engaging manner using many real life examples. Get it and see what the media does and why it fails us!!!

I was surprised I liked this book.

This book was required for a journalism class I'm taking. I'm glad it was or I'd never have considered reading it. I despise politics and was dreading taking this class and reading this book. I was pleasantly surprised by this author's honest and direct approach to explaining the complicated relationship between journalists and politics. I'm in my senior year of college, and this is perhaps the only one of my school books that I'll happily save to re-read again someday. This version was also cheaper than the one my university bookstore was selling; same edition but printed by a different publisher. Score.

About the Author
Professor Kay-Tee Khaw trained in medicine at Girton College, Cambridge and then at St. Mary's Hospital London where she had the transforming experience of being taught clinical medicine and epidemiology by Geoffrey Rose. She was one of the students on the first year of the Masters in Epidemiology course that Geoffrey Rose started in the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and his ideas have continued to inspire her through many international clinical and academic posts. She is a principal investigator in EPIC, a prospective population study on diet, cancer, and chronic disease, which involves 500,000 participants from ten European Countries which aims to identify nutritional, hormonal and other factors which determine good health. She also co-ordinates an annual World Heart Federation/World Health Organisation International Teaching Seminar, originated by Geoffrey Rose.

Excellent Holocaust teaching resource

I came across this title whilst visiting the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. The title captured my interest "I never saw another butterfly: Children's Drawings and Poems from Terezin Concentration Camp, 1942-1944". Immediately, my interest was piqued - who were these children, and what happened to them during those dark days of the Holocaust? I was also keen to discover the artwork of these innocent children who had been victims of Nazi oppression and brutality.

Between the years 1942-1944, about 15,000 children were incarcerated at various times in the Terezin [or Theresienstadt] Concentration Camp, just outside of Prague. This camp was promoted as the 'ideal' camp by the Nazis, who used it as a cover-up for their brutalities in other camps, such as the death camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Dachau, Majdanek, Sobibor, etc. The Nazis were so successful in their propaganda efforts that even the Red Cross was hoodwinked into believing that conditions in the camp were exemplary, and that inmates flourished here. The reality was far from the truth as conditions were terrible - starvation and diseases flourished, and the inhabitants were merely biding their time before being shipped off to the camps in the east for extermination.

Of those 15,000 children under the age of 15, only 100 survived...but before these innocent lives were taken, many of these children wrote poems describing their thoughts and feelings and produced works of art that voiced their innermost fears and desires. Thanks to the great number of art teachers in this camp, children continued to gain access to art supplies and were given an outlet to vent their creativity and frustration. Many of these pictures are now displayed in the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. As I perused these pictures on the wall, my soul silently cried out for all the lost potential due to the premature annihilation of these innocent lives [though a few of these children did survive the Holocaust]. One poignant image is of a simple drawing of a little child running into a house with a sun in the background - which was so simple yet effective in conveying the desperate need of a child for the comfort of home from which he/she had been torn away from, so very violently.

This is a great resource for parents and educators seeking to make the Holocaust more accessible to children. I think it's suitable for children ages 7 and older, if only because some of the poems are a bit 'deep' in content.This is also a wonderful resource to get children to express themselves through art. Highly recommended!
